The annual conference of The Law Firm Network” in Moscow

On June 08-10 the annual conference of the law firm international network “The Law Firm Network” (LFN) took place in Moscow. Westside law firm, the Russian member of the global network, was the host side. The Chair of International private and civil law of MGIMO University was the partner of the conference.

Being a global international association of independent law firms involving more than 50 jurisdictions, LFN has been a platform for coordination of its members’ international projects for more than 20 years. Law firm associations like LFN are a real alternative to major international firms in case a legal support of multinational business-projects is needed.

Business gatherings took place in the conference hall of the Marriott Royal Aurora Hotel.

On June 08 a meeting of work groups took place. During the meeting the delegates from various countries discussed the current issues of corporate law and M&A, franchising, restructuring and insolvency, white collar crime, business development. The delegates also shared their views in respect of current trends in the area of law and economics. The issues of international commercial arbitration have been covered. The President of the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation Alexey Kostin and the arbitrator of the Maritime Arbitration Commission at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation made reports, covering advantages of the above dispute resolution method in Russia.

On June 09 a public session “Regulation of international business contracts in foreign countries” took place. At the public session the reference book covering issues of international business contracts prepared by LFN was presented. The business edition “Vedomosti” (https://events.vedomosti.ru/events/commercial_pravreg17) was the partner of the public session.

Representatives of The Law Firm Network countries (Germany, UK, USA, Italy, Spain, Japan, Mexico, Russia) reported on special issues of concluding and performing of international business contracts, on the attitude of different public orders to the UN Convention for the International Sale of Goods, on the resolution of disputes arising from such contracts. The topic arouse keen interest among representatives of legal and business communities, attracted wide audience including specialists in the area of international commercial law, arbitration, practicing lawyers, scientists making researches in the area of international trade operations regulation. Reports of the delegates was followed by the heated discussion.
